RESUMO

ABSTRACT CONTEXT: Dermoid cysts are well-defined cysts containing sebaceous glands and dermal structures. In the literature, dermoid cysts and associated closure defects have been described in the same locations. CASE REPORT: In this case, a dermoid cyst was found at the base of the mouth with a coexisting closure defect in the occipital calvarium. Additional abnormalities were also observed, including posterior myeloschisis, right cerebellar dysgenesis, vermian hypogenesis and posterior fusion of the second and third vertebrae. The finding of a dermoid cyst located at the base of the mouth is discussed here, with additional imaging findings. CONCLUSION: Dermoid cysts in the head and neck region may be accompanied by posterior fossa abnormalities.

RESUMO

Neuroendocrine neoplasms are the most common epithelial tumors among appendix tumors. Appendix tumors that are completely or partially composed of neuroendocrine cells are divided into two categories: Classic carcinoid tumors and goblet cell carcinoid tumors (GCCT). They are known to progress more aggressively than classic (neuro) endocrine tumors. In this study, three cases with acute appendicitis symptoms are presented, including their clinical and histopathological findings. Microscopic examination detected GCCT in two cases and mixed adenoneuroendocrine carcinoma in one case, in addition to acute appendicitis.

RESUMO

Hydatid cyst disease is a parasitic infestation caused by Echinococcus granulosus. It is transmitted via oral ingestion of eggs excreted by dog's stool. Liver and lungs are the most commonly involved organs. Primary involvement of submandibular region by hydatid cyst is extremely rare. In this article, we report a case of a lesion excised from submandibular region with an initial diagnosis of branchial cleft cyst, but shown to be a hydatid cyst in histopathological evaluation.

RESUMO

Neurothekeomas are benign tumours of nerve sheath origin. Neurothekeomas present most commonly on the head and neck and upper extremities. These are usually small, slow growing tumours. Most patients with neurothekeoma are young women. We describe a 1-year-old infant with a large and extensive neurothekeoma in the upper extremity. We believe that our patient is one of the youngest cases and the tumour is probably the largest and most extensive neurothekeoma reported in the literature.

RESUMO

Docetaxel can cause skin reactions such as hypersensitivity, edema, and erythrodysesthesia syndrome as well as side effects involving the skin, including alopecia, nail onycholysis, nail pigmentation, photosensitivity, scleroderma, and paresthesia. In this case report, a patient was admitted to the hospital with widespread erythematous and edematous eruption in the head, neck, trunk, and lower and upper extremities, erythema around the eyes, and drooping of the lower eyelids that developed about 2 hours after receiving chemotherapy consisting of docetaxel. Use of the Naranjo Adverse Drug Reaction Probability Scale--a method for estimating the probability of adverse drug reactions--indicated a probable relationship between the skin reaction and docetaxel therapy in this patient. Docetaxel-associated skin reactions that are so extensive and severe as to lead to eye madarosis and ectropion are reported rarely in the literature.
